Huskies

A new high-energy husky

There is a new husky around here. First, whenever anyone says to me, Huskies are such gorgeous dogs; I wish I had one. I do try to discourage them.

I work from home. I am here most days. My dogs don’t get left alone hardly at all.  Huskies are high-energy dogs. And, to be very honest can be destructive when left to their own devices.

When Disney was a puppy, she ate several game controllers, the TV remote, and Marilyn’s glasses. With Walter, I had to raise the fence by 18 inches and put cinderblocks around the bottom edge.

I love my dogs! I love the husky breed. They have such outgoing personalities. They are gorgeous dogs. And all of mine have those big beautiful blue eyes.

So we now have a new puppy! She is high-energy! That is precisely what the FB post said too.

When we went to pick her up, they told us her name was Princess. Fate just stepped in at that point, and she came home with us.

Now we often call Disney princess, so we needed to rename the pup. Her new title is Princess Aurora.

It’s official; my neighbors think I am nuts.

But with that being said, there are a few things that we are doing to make this a smoother transition.

Training tips for the new dog

1. I am buying a new kennel.

I am not playing the game; what has Aurora eaten while I am away.  The first purchase will be a nice sturdy kennel. It was so much better after we kennel-trained Walter. He loves his kennel now. So we are starting with her now.

2.  Start her training right away.

She is eight months to a year old, so training is underway. At the same time, she came potty trained and knew some commands such as sit and paw. She needs to know how to listen to our voices.

3.  Schedule a vet visit to make sure she is healthy.

We took in a puppy that was not healthy. While it was very expensive, it was also heart-wrenching. We’d only had her a few months and lost her so quickly. We want to make sure our little Aurora is healthy.
