Homesteading with Huskies
The first post on a new blog is always such an exciting adventure! And Homesteading with Huskies is not only a new blog but a new venture for us!
Now we are not new to Huskies. We have 2. First is Disney; she is nine years old. Then we have an 18-month-old named Walter. Yes, I am a huge Disney fan. Can ya tell? I won’t tell you what hubby wants to name the next puppy!
But we are in the process of trying out this Urban Homesteading thing. And since I do everything in my daily life with these two huskies on my heels, this seemed like a natural thing for us to combine.
So, what is urban homesteading?
I will define what it is to us; how is that?
How we define Urban Homesteading
We bought this house in a small town. What we liked about it was a couple of things.
It is a double lot, just shy of an acre of land.
It had a fenced-off area we thought was meant for a garden.
But we have lived here for nine years, and other things have happened that the garden has been neglected. It’s been neglected very severely.
Two weekends ago, hubby and I were out in the backyard, and I said I would love to start gardening again, but that area just depressed and intimidated me.
He took this task on. We have one raised bed that is planted with winter veggies. We also have cinderblocks being delivered this week to complete two more!
But to me, Urban homesteading isn’t all about just gardening. It’s about the home.
Cooking, cleaning, canning, preserving food, putting things by for a time when things may be scarce, and so on.
To us, it is being more self-sufficient and less reliant on someone or something else for ourselves.
So join us on this journey as we learn about gardening, canning, prepping, and other things that will come up.
And, of course, this will all be in the company of 2 very loveable huskies!
