What are you prepping for?

I recently saw a live of a preppers that I follow on TikTok. Some of the questions that he got was – “what are you prepping for?” He also got a lot of hate about how you shouldn’t be preparing for the worst all the time.

This made me think – What am I prepping for?

We joke in this house that we are prepping for the Zombie Apocalypse. OK, so we may have watched too many episodes of the Walking Dead. But who is with me?

But in reality there are a lot of things to prep for. Let’s just consider the recent past and how we would have been prepared a lot better if we had of just had the things we need on hand.

Reasons why we prep

Remember when covid started? How we didn’t and couldn’t find toilet paper? We were blessed that our youngest had just had me get her a very large pack of TP from Sam’s club. That got us through until we could get more. And we got more because she works for the local grocery store that made sure there employees got what they needed!

Then the following February 14th here in Texas we had a snow storm with rolling black outs. Our water pipes burst and we were without water for 7 weeks. It was no fun, trust me.

I also have to mention that 2 hurricanes have come into Florida since the end of September. Now we don’t live in Florida, but we do live 5 hours from the Texas gulf coast. If a hurricane comes into Corpus Christi or Houston we have the chance of lots of rain and at the very least a tropical storm. Have you ever tried to get supplies before a forecasted storm in Texas? Bread, Milk, water and beer shelves are all completely empty.

Those events alone have given us the motivation to make sure we have enough on hand for our family. Not to mention with inflation it is cheaper to buy things now than it will be in a few weeks.

What am I prepping for?

So what am I prepping for?

I am prepping for any event where my family may be in need.

We are making sure that we always have what we need on hand. Hoarding is not applicable because we aren’t taking more than we need, just what we need.

What would you need in an emergency?

Take a minute and think about it. Is there something that your family would need or be uncomfortable without if you couldn’t get to the store? If you were shut off from the outside world for a few days or even a few weeks?

Keep that stuff on hand. You many find you never need to have it, and rotate your stock constantly. Isn’t it better to be prepared and to never need it, than to not have it when you really need it?
